Moto Hospitality Limited has become the UK’s major operator of motorway and trunk road service areas since it was established in 2001. With 4,500 staff across more than 40 locations in England and Scotland, the Bedfordshire company has a turnover of £800 million.
Moto’s service portfolio includes a truck washing service at three key sites – Toddington, Donington Park and Cherwell Valley – with others in the pipeline. While this service represents an important revenue opportunity ripe for expansion, it requires a streamlined real-time data gathering and invoicing system in order to be developed and delivered cost-effectively.
The Challenge
To begin with, Moto used manual processes for recording wash information charging truck drivers and invoicing haulage companies. Inevitably, this generated a large volume of paperwork and the constant risk of invoice discrepancies and payments delayed by queries.
The Software
Moto asked edg to design a fully automated mobile data system based on its Advantedg suite of modules, adapting it to suit the unique requirements of the truck washing industry. While the location of one of the sites was potentially challenging in terms of GPRS coverage, was able to prove that the system would work and real time communication would be efficient across the entire network.
The Solution
The system is hosted by edg, liberating Moto from the overheads of day-to-day running, data storage and maintenance, while providing the business with an easy to use, standardised interface that allows staff and managers to input data and access real-time information about how the truck washing service is performing. Moto did not need to purchase any additional hardware or software and everything was taken care of by edg.
